Today we marked the trees at Alta. We marked the waypoints with our GPS Garmin units. We marked over 30 waypoints. The Garmin tracked out route from waypoint to waypoint. From there we came in and imported the information into the Basecamp app. To do this we clicked on the Garmn Device. Selected the waypoints. After this we went to file, Export recently read track, then we changed the file type to CSV and exported it to our CMAP file. From here we cleaned up the Excel sheet, and imported the data from our Excel file and imported it into a google doc.
Once in CMAP website: When saving csv file, uncheck etension.
Map, add layer from file, choose the file you saved from your computer (.csv), choose tree file, import layer.
zoom in, go to base map, choose imagery. This is how we did and submitted our tree assignment.
Tiffany Kinder from USU Water Quality spoke to the class today about watersheds and water quality.

After this we manipulated our data on our CMAP maps. We imported our tree Excel file and selected sizes of points to see the CCH, tree type, and tree size. We then uploaded these to our Weebly accounts and submitted them.
How you feel: I feel great! liked marking waypoints outside. This took a while, but I learned a lot. I am very comfortable with my GPS now!
What you like: Love my Garmin, love using it, and love uploading my data to maps. I really am going to use this at home, and hopefully teachers will let me do it with their classes.
I still have questions: Is it worth it to purchase the paid subscription for the Geocaching site?? Still debating!
